You open the pincers and press them into the top of a strawberry. But the spring is not strong enough to close the pincers and cut the strawberry. We tried it with a few strawberries and gave up. Back to the kitchen knife.

Having used the tweezer-style hullers with varying success, I thought I'd try this one. It really is a very efficient little tool and quite satisfying to use; a simple press on the plunger, stick the four blades into the fruit around the leaves, release the plunger, twist, and Bob's your uncle. I did read one review which said that this huller wasn't any good for small strawberries but this is wrong- you just don't push the blades in as far and it works just the same. it also helps that it is a nice little gadget. Out of interest I have also bought one of the very cheap copies of the Chef'n StemGem and although it looks very similar it definately has a flimsier, cheaper feel to it, and the blades are looser- it also arrived without a plunger knob- it must have fallen off before being posted as the missing part wasn't in the bag! You pays your money as they say...
