I'm a fan of weather, big time. We've got a Davis VP weather station that uploads to the net, two recording thermometers around the property, a NOAA SAME radio with outdoor yagi antenna, a collection of old barometers on a wall, and a NOAA polar orbiter download station with two quadrifilar helix antennas and a specialized receiver that receives images direct from the satellites. With all that machinery, I'm still interested in knowing the visual/sensible signs and trends that signal weather conditions and changes in weather. I've been a Davis customer for weather stations and sailing gear, so I expected nothing less than excellence in this weather card and I was not disappointed. One side of the card is all about using clouds, baro pressure, and wind direction to forecast the weather. It includes plan and elevation drawings of a classic low, text and drawings detailing frontal behaviors, and ten photo thumbnails of the most important cloud types. The reverse side contains general forecast rules along with detail on fog, hurricanes, marine radio, the Beaufort scale, etc. I could easily read the text with my middle-aged-guy reading glasses. The base material is a stiff form of plastic, perhaps some kind of nylon or PVC material. Either way, it is sturdy and I've had it out in the cold and it doesn't seem to get brittle. The three holes make it easy to stash in your nav log or your weather notebook. All in all, a nice addition to my met collection.
