Q: How is this not just a bowl?

This egg cooker bowl has two main advantages, first it does not get hot even when you cook six eggs for 4 or more minutes, and it is the easiest cleanup bowl you will ever buy, you basically rinse it under the sink and it comes clean. These bowls are very slick for scrambled eggs, this bowl looks small but I have put up to 8 eggs (no milk) in it at one time. Generally I will cook 6 scrambled eggs for about 4 minutes. You will never break out another fry pan again after the speed of the cook time and the ease of cleanup with using this bowl for scrambled eggs. The only problem anyone encounters is not with the bowl, but with the microwave process, in which the eggs can become somewhat drier than when you cook them in a pan on the stove.

Q: Why does the box say you have to use it with water?

If you don’t add water you will get a dry rubbery cooked egg. The water steams and slows the cooking process so you get a much better breakfast. I started microwaving eggs in a Ramekin about 20 years ago

Q: Can you make "fried" or sunny-side-up eggs with this? Or just scrambled?

to tell you the truth, I have never used it. Save your $. Just as easy to mix in a soup bowl and pop in microwave. But as far as fried or sunny up...no this is only for scrambled and you are limited to the number of eggs you can use. Again, cute but not worth it.

Q: Are there 2 in the package or just one? One of the photos shows 2.

There is only 1 dish in the package, so if you need 2 then need to order a quantity of 2.
