If you have kids, get this! For less than $10 you can record in whatever you want and play it back as many times as you want. It seems useful until you realize it's limitless! Okay there's a 30 second time limit, but, well, virtually limitless. You could record a phrase like "I love you. You love me. We're a happy family," or perhaps something that isn't the Barney song. You could record a favorite song, your kid singing along with you ("Twinkle, Twinkle" for us), the sound of a relative, a phrase you want your kid to learn, the sound of a toy, or a happy message for your significant other.Now the audio quality isn't perfect. If you're old enough to remember tape-based answering machines, this is quite similar. Hold it about 12-18" away from your mouth while talking or singing to get decent sound.The only negative is that we've had some really great moments recorded into it, only to have our toddler hold down the button too long, thus erasing the recording... Doh! I wish there were a way to lock it in there. The trade off is the simplicity of it: It has only an on-off switch and a record/play button. Oh and there's an LED that lights up the whole front of it when it plays back.We love this thing and would replace it immediately if it gets destroyed at some point. This is a reasonably likely scenario given our child's age. But that's okay. If you can make your kid (or niece, nephew, friend's kid, or really anyone) smile for ~$8, that's a pretty good deal in my book.

I wanted this for my classroom but it’s way to quiet. I can barely hear it unless I’m next to it the whole time. Great for just you, so still gave it 3 STARS, but it will not be a party of more than 1!
