Q: Would this be a good speaker to take to the beach and play under a beach canopy/tent?

This would be a great speaker to play under a canopy/tent at a low volume so as not to bother other beach goers. Unless it’s a private beach, in which case, call the police to get rid of the uninvited beach goers and crank up the volume. I think asking if any Bluetooth speaker would be a good speaker to take to the beach is a very silly and selfish question/idea.

Runs on an internal rechargeable battery that charges with included micro usb cord and charger (or any phone charger with micro usb cord)

Q: Does it always stay connected? Some speakers shut off after an hour or so non use

Yeah this speaker is very user friendly Mine shuts off if no songs are playing after about 10-15 mins, also my neighbor loves it, every time I jam my music I can hear him dancing, at least I think he’s dancing 🕺🏾. “I want to disturb my neighbors, cause I’m feeling so right” -Bob Marley
