A practical and beautiful solution for storing and serving butter, The Original Butter Bell Crock by L. Tremain keeps butter soft, delicious, and spreadable for up to 30 days without refrigeration. Modeled after the original French design, the butter crock is made from durable new bone china. Available in a wide array of colors, the crock can match existing dinnerware or stand on its own to add a touch of color to the table. It goes from the kitchen to the tabletop with no fuss. Butter's delicate flavor and freshness are protected by an airtight seal of water at the base of the crock, safely keeping butter fresh and spreadable without refrigeration, odors, or spoilage. It also keeps butter at the perfect "spreading" consistency by reflecting outside heat while insulating and cooling the butter. To use, firmly pack one stick of softened butter into the bell-shaped lid, pour cold water into the base of the crock, and place the lid upside down back into the base of the crock. Store the crock away from heat or sunlight, and change the water in the base every two to three days. Cleaning is easy since the crock is dishwasher safe.

unique and useful
I love this! It is so easy to use and so very pretty. It's thick and solid material, not flimsy at all. Looks lovely on the table and does keep butter perfectly fresh. Don't forget to change the water every 3 days. It's easy to press the butter in, but be sure to soften it for right around one hour out of the fridge. Longer than that and it will get too soft and may come apart into butter flakes in the water. Pack it very well and firmly after it has softened for an hour. I've never ever had a problem with the butter flaking into the water.

Good product! Works as advertised for fresh, spreadable butter every time.
We were tired of buying tubs of whipped butter but finding that even it did not spread very well. (And isn't that the point of whipped butter?) The Butter Bell allows us to soften a stick of butter, spread it into the top portion of the bell, turn it upside down and store it in cold water (change every 2-3 days) in the bottom part of the bell. This gives us fresh, soft, spreadable butter every time. The crock itself if easy to wash, fill and use. This solved our problem! I would buy this as again and recommend it to friends and family.

Love my butter bell
I started making homemade butter and use the butter bell to store it in. (I have not tried using store bought butter in this.) I prefer homemade butter. It works great. I'm pretty OCD. I change the water out every couple of days. I use ice water (I put ice in the water to chill it, then take the ice out before dropping the top in.) This may help those that live in warmer climates. I personally don't mind if the water touches the water. No more hard butter. No more waiting for the butter to soften. I have been using this for about a month now, and it has NEVER molded. Not sure what other people are doing.

Works Perfectly
This works exactly as advertised, fits 1 stick of butter and keeps it cool, soft and not spoiled, even during the summer. I change the water every 3 days and absolutely love it. Looks very nice on the counter too. Also, the handle on the top perfectly fits an egg so when my pan is heating up and I plot the egg on top and not worry its going to fall off the counter :)

color is not as advertised.
The butter bell works fine, the color is not as vivid as displayed on the top image. It is more of a cornflower blue than it is a royal blue. As far as the make of the butter bell it's a 5, however due to the color being different from the advertised image I'm deducting stars.

Surprise...Butter floats(^;
More than a few times the butter has fallen out of the bell into the water, even though i keep the butter in a cool area in the kitchen.There needs to be a design change in the mold used for the "bell" part of the crock. Perhaps a slightly corrugated/ridged bell interior so that the butter will be held in place better than with the smooth surface with which it is made.

Well-made butter crock in an attractive color
The crock is well-made and shows no signs of wear after a month of regular use. It fits a full stick of butter, but with no room to spare. If you need to fit more than a stick of butter, you may want to consider another item. Our family bakes with some regularity, so we often end up with fractions of a stick of butter that we add to the crock. The cobalt blue color matches our Longaberger blue stoneware.

Pretty, but not colbalt like I thought
This was a much more muted dark blue, I thought it'd be a brighter colbalt blue. But as a dish it works great.
