Marina, yes you can use nail polish remover to remove the old layer. I usually put the renew on clean nails at night so that my cuticles can get a good treatment. The next day, I put on a coat of the white ridge filler, and a coat of the strengthener. I usually change it 2 to 3 times a week. If I am attending an outing or event, I will put a coat of regular colored polish on over nail kit, but make sure you remove the polish after a day or 2, then start all over again with the process. It's going to take some time for you to see some results however, in due time your nails will look healthy again.

Q: why does the warning say "cancer"? can this be elaborated as to why?

It’s got a Prop 65 warning in it. Just like practically everything else you buy. They are required to tell you that the ingredients have been linked to cancer. Like cigarettes, for those that bought this and smoke. There’s formaldehyde in cigarettes. I don’t understand. Why did they buy it? The description clearly states the warning and they still bought it.
