Stains on clothing, do I dilute it or just spray on and wash? Do you soak it for a while?

This is a cleaner and as such it contains things they don't really tell you about.    I would never use it on anything sensitive to ammonia or chlorine or any oxidizer.   I bought it and tested it on many things but the first was shower ceramic tile and it did a job no other cleaner had done without changing the color of the tile.  HOWEVER; the fumes were horrific and the word ventilation returns to echo something I read. If you want to try it on stains you know about you are in luck in learning.  Stains you don't know about make the process extremely difficult as you have no clue as to what ordinary laundry soap did not loosen. Ultraviolet light will break down most plant stains that when exposed to the same light will suddenly turn dark leaving you possibly with no clue as to how they got there. Sap from tropical huge leafed plants in sunlight will suddenly turn the color of dried blood.  On swimming pool decks it will look like a crime scene where there is so much of it you assume somebody died.  Oxidizers and sunlight will get rid of that stain and even banana stalk juice stain but the original color will be damaged.   I have a Cintas uniform shirt stained with banana stalk juice and after almost 40 years it finally came loose and the shirt looks like new after washing countless times.  One day the shirt came clean.  Stain solid one day and gone the next after 40 years.   The short story here is that even after it looks like your experiment has been successful a week later you will suddenly notice that the result is very bad.   Every stain book will tell you that nothing is guaranteed to not have side effects immediate or down the road.  Cloth these days may say "cotton" but you will discover that cotton comes in many flavors;  Polished is cotton with ironed in polyester resin compounds. Recycled cotton is short fiber cotton and extremely weak compared to real cotton.  Hydrocarbons will destroy many fabrics.  Costco automotive white towel rags will dissolve in Acetone.    The simple truth is if you don't know exactly what is in your water supply you have no idea what the reaction with any cleaner will be. You can buy a gas chromatograph for to analyze your drinking water to see what the mad scientist added to it or just muddle through trial and many errors.  MANY errors.  CLOTH is no longer cotton wool or sisal which means you really have no clue as to what you are trying to remove a stain from.  Right there you have crossed into the land of OZ.  I would not use anything but grandma's lye soap and sunlight on anything I cared about.  At least then you know about 1/3 of the equation of  cloth / cleaner / and stain.  "the cleaner".   Any scientific process is controlled environment  where you carefully set the stage for repeatability.  If you can stain samples with the same stain source then you can begin the process by doing your own experiment .    FIRST dilution is a process of weakening the components of the compound in your cleaner by dilution in distilled water.  NOT TAP WATER! TAP WATER CONTAINS  FOR MANY SOURCES YOU MUST BE AWARE.  Chlorine (an oxidizer), fluoride, ammonia, and if you live near a volcano,, sulfuric acid.   Fluoride is a powerful and reactive substance of which nobody knows the density of it in your drinking water from day to day.  AMONIA AND CHLORINE PLUS A COUPLE OTHER THINGS can be really serious bad news and this is where the problem begins when applying any cleaner to cloth of unknown compounds.  Shirts and socks sold in the late 1950's may have looked slick but some of them are like cellulose and catch fire you will find that fire almost impossible to put out without commercial agents not available to ordinary people.  Carbon tetrachloride is a common cleaner and will put out a cellulose fire quickly.  In the body it will dissolve fatty tissue like in your brain.  Dry cleaners might have a supply hidden away somewhere out of EPA and OSHA view for those weird things.  Ordinary people will find obtaining it extremely difficult. Good luck!

I'm cleaning my wooden kitchen cabinets "before" applying wood conditioner & protection. does this la's awesome leave a residue?

No, don't use it on real wood.  I found out the hard way its damaging to that.   Use something like Simple Green, which can also remove oily residues.

I have some wood furniture that has been in a house of smokers and ha nicotine all over it and smells like stale cigarettes. will it remove nicotine?

To kill any odors, this kills cigarette smells. Nok Out Odor Remover, Pet Deodorizer and Cleaning Spray. I believe this is the stuff they use in meat packing plants.
