It depends on exactly what you mean. If you have made cookie cutters this way before, or have worked with tin, then you may not need the starter kit, which includes forms and extra tools. I found it useful, but not personally knowing you, it'd be hard to tell you one way or another. I've had metalworking experience, but did find the kit useful.

Q: Can anyone say the thickness of the aluminum?

I don’t know the actual thickness. But it’s like any cookie cutter you might buy. Easy to bend and shape and holds shape very well.

Q: What is the guage of the aluminum?

If you tell me how to measure the gauge, I'll be happy to do it for you. I can tell you that I cut it with regular scissors, and bend it with my hands. (When I need a sharp corner, I use the tool included, and bend it around the tool with my hands.) It's stiff but not so stiff I can't easily cut and bend it.
