Q: Does this ruler have 1/2 markings?

Yes, not only that, it is marked every 1/8". Clear and easy to read.

Q: Is this ruler thicker than than rulers from other brands

No. It is a no-slide ruler that is better than others. I have stopped using other rulers and will only buy Creative Grid rulers for the last few years since discovering them. They are so much better than the others and I make 5-8 quilts a year - mostly large king sized quilts. Actually I do buy special sizing quilt rulers from Missouri Star Quilt company to size triangular pieces. Even using the non slide dots on other rulers did not work as well as the Creative Grid rulers.

The measurements are 6 1/2 x 24 1/2. This includes a seam allowance of 1/4" on each side of the fabric when sewn.

Q: Is the ruler sturdy? As in will it stay in place or do I have to put undue pressure?

Creative Grids are my favorite rulers. I've given away all other brands. They stay in place better than other rulers but all rulers require pressure to keep them in place. "Undue pressure" is not necessary because they don't slide around as much as other brands.
