You need to remove the last two bead from each strand and remove the excess beads and then put the two beads back and secure the last bead. The shortening of width , however, is a bit tricky. That's because strands are secured to a top bar in clusters. It means if you want to remove one strand , you need to take out the whole cluster

Q: Can wood hanging rod be cut to the width we need?

Yes it is possible to cut the width of these beaded curtain but it's a bit tricky. That's because strands are attached to top rod in clusters. 4 to 5 strands make one cluster. It means if you take out one the other strands will fall off too.
