Q: Does this display the date of selected?

No. Just the time and alarm time. No date.

Q: Will this charge a phone with a pop socket on the back?

Only if it’s the new popsocket that the top twists off. To my knowledge no wireless charger will work with the old style popsocket on.

Q: We cannot get bluetooth to connect on a consistent basis. ihome says it’s searching for devices and the device has bluetooth enabled. any advice?

Your best bet is to return the device. Those are very very unreliable. We purchased two of them and neither worked correctly. I had constant problems. Trust me, return this and spend your money on something that does t say iHome on it.
