Good book
This is a great book for beginners trying to wade their way through the labyrinth of lens choices on the market. It explains focal length, aperture and other features of lenses in a clear and consist manner. However I would have appreciated a deeper explanation of aperture vs. depth of field and low-light shooting, although admittedly the author states that bigger is better and explains that the reason why is outside of the scope of this book. Maybe a couple of simple images illustrating depth of field may have helped but I understand why the author did not want to go there. The author does a good job of limiting himself to only the basics of specifications of lenses without going into the specifics of creative opportunities afforded by purchasing said lenses. I'd recommend this book to beginners wanting to get an idea of what different lenses do.

Super easy to understand guide book perfect for beginners!
Straight forward information that is clear and concise. The book is well organized and the author does not assume the reader has any experience beyond reading the first book in this series: “Understanding DSLR Cameras. Like a top shelf text book, the author presents an overview, then specifics, followed by a review of key points. Moreover, Al Judge shares his years of expertise and wisdom from behind the lense to help the beginner make appropriate equipment purchases for his or her needs.Beyond being an excellent source of information, Al Judge will take it one step farther and personally respond to e-mails from his readers. I encountered a minor technical problem downloading some pdf files, and Mr. Judge not only sent alternative links but ultimately attached the pdf files to his e-mail for me. And he encouraged me to write if I had any other questions. These books are informative and the information is easily accessible, so no time is wasted on long wordy fillers—it’s as if the writer knows how excited I am to get out there and use my new camera!

Good for beginners
This is a good book for people beginning in photography who do not know much about interchangeable lenses. The book is informative, full of basic information on camera lenses, and he briefly covers the major brands. He covers f- stops, wide angle and telephoto very well. Explains the different features of the lenses. As to a few of his statements about second to none on lenses, that can change from year to year, and currently many professionals are jumping ship from Canon to Nikon for quality and features.

Not a bad book. Although
Not a bad book. Although, I would like to see more information about how certain lenses may be more suitable for certain types of photography, such as landscaping, portraits, and weddings. Definitely worth buying and has information that I will resort back to when buying future lenses for my Canon rebel T5..

Good book for a basic understanding of lenses, their differences and how to find what you need. Serves well as an intro to lenses as well as offering info for those looking to advance their understanding of photography. Written without technical lingo, clear and concise.

Lenses, oh all the choices!
They are lot of choices when it comes to lenses from wide angle, normal, to focal point lenses. And the prices vary to semi affordable to the extremely expensive. You should eventually have at least one of each type that fits your budget if photography is going to be something serious to you.

Great for anyone new to photography
I really enjoyed reading this book. The author's writing style makes it very easy to follow and understand what he is trying to portray. I have since read a few other of the author's books and suggest that anyone new to photography to give these books a try. I believe that most if not all of his books are available within Amazon.

Better options for free
Not over impressed with this book, it is very basic and I have found better information for free on the internet; which was also more specific to my needs.

This was a very informative book. To the point and in layman terms. I used it along with my camera, which worked very well. Spell check could have been used in places.
