Demoró en llegar un poco, debe ser por tratarse de un producto que viene de USA o por la pandemia pero llegó en perfectas condiciones.

Selenium was named after the moon goddess, Selene, by the Swedish chemist Jons Jakob Berzelius in 1817. Dr. Klaus Schwarz established selenium as an essential nutrient for animals in 1957, but the first selenium function in humans wasn't discovered until 1973. Dr. John Rotruck and his colleagues at the University of Wisconsin demonstrated that selenium was incorporated into molecules of an enzyme called glutathione peroxidase (GPX). This vital enzyme protects red blood cells, cell membranes and sub-cellular components against undesirable reactions with soluble peroxides. We now know that several selenium-containing proteins exist, so selenium is essential in more ways than we knew in 1973. Selenium is a component of the enzyme that is needed to produce the most active thyroid hormone. Sub-optimal amounts of selenium impair thyroid hormone function and thus affects many body functions. Selenium is a component of the enzyme that is needed to produce the thyroid hormone triiodothyronine (T3). T3 is the preponderant metabolic thyroid hormone. The selenium-containing enzyme, iodothyronine deiodinase, converts the prohormone thyroxine (T4) into T3. Selenium and sulfur are chalcogens that share many chemical properties, so the strong smell or 'odor' many mention about this product is a good thing - not a bad thing. Having taken selenium for many years, usually in the less expensive selenite form that's usually combined with yeast, the benefits of selenium are so great that anything about the smell it has were put aside long ago. And after all, you're taking something that isn't all that different, chemically, from sulfur, so what should you expect? Ideally, selenium should be supplemented in the form in which it occurs naturally in foods. In studies it was found that selenomethionine was at least 75 percent bioavailable, compared to 59 percent for sodium selenite. It has been suggested that selenomethionine, which is an organic form of selenium, is easier for the human body to absorb than selenite, which is an inorganic form. It was determined in a clinical trial that selenomethionine is absorbed 19% better than selenite. Because the l-isomer of selenomethionine (Se-met) is a major natural food-form of selenium, synthetic l-Se-met or enriched food sources thereof such as selenium yeast are appropriate supplemental forms of Se for humans; for animals, dl-Se-met is acceptable. Ingested Se-met is either metabolized directly to reactive forms of selenium or stored in place of methionine in body proteins. Se-met metabolism is closely linked to protein turnover. At constant intakes in the nutritional range, tissue Se levels increase until a steady state is established, preventing the build-up to toxic levels. Methionine is an amino acid, meaning it is a building block of protein. When you consume selenomethionine supplements, your body recognizes the selenium as the amino acid methionine and immediately incorporates it in into its protein stores. In fact, taking selenomethionine supplements results in plasma selenium stores twice as high as equivalent doses of non-organic selenium supplements such as selenate, according to the Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database. Selenium supplements such as selenomethionine are considered safe and well-tolerated when consumed in doses not exceeding the tolerable upper intake — 400 micrograms daily. However, excessive amounts may cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, nail changes, fatigue, irritability, alopecia and weight loss. Selenium supplements may also interact with medications such as anticoagulants, contraceptives and schizophrenia drugs. Although selenite or selenate may be used for selenoprotein biosynthesis, only Se-met is incorporated into body proteins. This allows Se to be stored in the organism and reversibly released by normal metabolic processes, thus offering an advantage over other Se compounds, along with other possible beneficial effects. Ingested Se-met is absorbed in the small intestine via the Na+-dependent neutral amino acid transport system. Any Se-met that is not immediately metabolized is incorporated into organs with high rates of proteisynthesis such as the skeletal muscles, erythrocytes, pancreas, liver, kidney, stomach and the gastrointestinal mucosa. This is a pure, no fillers really, and high quality selemium/selenomethionine product. The reviewers here that leave bad reviews for a selemium/selenomethionine supllement like this, mostly because they believe the 'odor' of the product is bad, are for the most part clueless. Hold your nose, if you must, and swallow the capsule. You won't taste a thing.
