Q: Will this mount in place of a car stereo?

It probably can but you would need to built a frame for it. It’s only held on with 4 sheet metal screws.

Q: How do you wire the negative? Only open connection is positive?

There should be a red and black wire hanging out of the switch for you ground. The lights that you want to run will need their own ground from the battery or just to the metal around it that is grounded. My driving lights are grounded at the mount that holds my lights in place and my light bar and rear lights use the same ground wire that I ran up to them. Remember to use a relay if wiring up powerful lights to save your switches.
