Yo can start using it right away, if this is the first time breastfeeding it might take some practice, but this is by far better than an electric one.

Q: Is the new pump more rigid than the original? I love my non-suction base one and it feels noticeably more pliable than this one.

It does feel more rigid than the original. Instead of the bulb collapsing when squeezed, it collapses around the breast and is quite painful when my breast is full.
