Zend PHP Certification Study Guide

This book was a good overview, but be careful. There are numerous mistakes in the book and on the "practice" tests. Not that his book will even be worth anything since the PHP4 test will no longer be given in a month, but if it's any indicator of what the PHP5 book is like I recommend you use more then one source of study material. Certain topics that are in the test were very briefly covered in the book, but I had two or three questions on it. I would recommend the cert course through Zend if you are worried about your knowledge.

I bought this thinking it was the latest version of the book. Unfortunately, the copy I got is a few years old and didn't cover the latest topics. Moral of the story: Make sure you can see the inside cover on Amazon. Check the publishing date before you buy.Still, it had some useful tips and information. I eventually ended up buying an e-book study guide directly from Zend themselves.

I love PHP and this book is teaching me some things about PHP that I do not know. But it is a little hard to read, like a text book. If you just want to learn PHP there are much better out there. However, I want to get certified, Zend classes are terribly expensive, and this book does explain what you need to know to get ready for the exam.

Not a lot to it minimal is what I would venture to call it

This book is filled with errors so it is not a good book for learning PHP, but that is not it's purpose. If you have experience coding PHP this book will give you a good overview of topics that may appear on the Zend Certification Exam and a good indication of subjects you may need to study further. Warning: PHP4 NOT PHP5 If your looking for a PHP5 study guide this is not it. It's still good for the general info, but not very useful in the OOP section

If you buy the first edition of this book (August 2004), you should be aware that the publisher has released a list of errors (and they are many.) The errarta can be found at the publisher's website.

This book only covers PHP 4 not the current version of PHP 5.Hope this helps other buyers.Sam

The book was informative, about a subject I am familiar with. The book's major good point is that it covers the subject with a detail, and also example questions and answers, which give an insight into the complexities of the subject.

Not really made clear this is out of date. Bought this by mistake. I'd suggest buying it direct from Zend to avoid problems like this and to ensure you have the latest version.
