yes, it needs to be a closed compartment not an open alcove. Heat blows off the end caps releasing the gas which robs the fire of oxygen. It doesn't work in an open field, a storage shed or a garage but a closed engine compartment, sized to fit the T050e will surpress open flame. I don't think it will surpress a major propane explosion.

yeah. it has an area of coverage. I don't know but the one i have is supposed to be about the size of a car engine space; I put it in a half rack of electronics. there are other kinds which are like apple sized balls which are much cheaper but they will make a big mess while this one won't leave anything or wreck electronics.
