Q: What genus and species is this from?

I am not sure. What I do know, is that out of the resins I have burned, this is one of my favorites. Frankincense smells great also. Benzoin Gum smells clean and healthy, as does Pine sap resin. Myrrh not very fragrant.

Q: Can you burn it on the charcoal inside the house, or only outside?

Any resin incense burned on charcoal may be burned inside the house in small amounts. But to avoid smoke inhalation issues and dangers, all Windows should be open with a fan running, and only tiny amounts at a time should be burned

Q: I bought charcoal pucks to burn with it, but the resin itself smells terrible and melts to a plastic look quickly. Should I be using wood?

I use charcoal with some ashes on top of it and haven't noticed a bad smell. This is the first Mayan copal I've used though so I don't know exactly how it is supposed to smell

Q: Can you put this in a campfire?

If you want the scent while camping, you could remove a small red hot coal about the size of a quarter or two, place it on a dry flat rock, or unburned wood, and place the resin on the coal so that it melts and smokes, releasing the fragrance. If you just throw it into the fire it will go to waste, as you wont smell it.
