Dark and nostalgic
I normally don't get too carried away with product reviews but, for this game, I simply must make an exception. Let it be known that this is one of the BEST games anyone could ever possibly own for their Playstation. If you are a fan of the Diablo series or just an rpg lover in general, then you absolutely must buy this game. Fans of the Kain series ususally aren't aware that this is the true first of the series, and generally start at soul reaver, however, this game is quite possibly the most important of the bunch as it explains all about how Kain became a vampire and his earliest roots.This game has PHENOMENAL voice acting, the lighting and architecture used in game give a very dark, gothic feel. True rpg fans will understand when I say that this is one of those games that are awesome to play when it's raining, completely adds to the immersion factor.For the time, this game is quite violent and gory visually, as well as in sound effects and in spoken dialogue which I feel is entirely necessary for the games dark and sinister atmosphere.To wrap this review up allow me to say, above ALL else, if you are a Legacy of Kain fan, this game is simply a MUST own.

Difficult
Neat game. I wanted to play it to get a better understand of Soul Reaver, but after much reading, Soul Reaver kinda went it's own way and you just need to play all those games to get the story. This game is great for learning about Kain's past, but it's a little redundant in terms of gameplay and difficult to play without a walkthrough. If you stop playing for a few days you're totally lost, which is what I did lol.Load times take forever, graphics are subpar, but it's still a neat game and one I would recommend if you enjoyed Soul Reaver, or if you enjoy dark fantasy themed older games.

Truly a game that should be called legendary...
Too many words exist to describe this masterpiece game. The original PlayStation had quite a few hit games in its time, but this would be one I would rate within the top 10 best games ever. The sequels, not so much, but this game had it all: the capturing storyline, the incredibly clear and believable character voices, great sound effects, but mostly the true darkness this game entails--hell on earth in mid-evil times, and you're a vampire with a cache of weapons and spells out to deal justice. The view was interesting for it's time, 3-d from above, but it's amazingly easy to navigate, especially once you can morph into animals.This game will never die, it's truly a forever game and I'll own a copy of it just like FF7 and Castlevania: SotN til the end of time! Buy it if you're into older games, from one gamer to another: it's worth it.

Sorry for the late review. Not bad at all for how old this disc is. I cleaned the disc prior to playing. No lock ups. Played the game completely through from beginning to end (72 hours). Worked perfectly. Will do biz again. A+++

Long load times, outdated graphics, so why five stars?
Because of game design! This is and isn't RPG, this is and isn't hack and slash, this is and isn't adventure game!This is a very good, even excellent game that can't classified as a genre - a game where you needn't read faq in fear of unrecoverables, where you have to think how to beat puzzles AND even how to beat enemy groups, where there is time for hacking AND time for strategy, too. Voice acting is perfectly suited to misanthropic and revenge hungry main character.Being curious usually pays with sweet bonus items, story is really good considering it is a fantasy game with goth elements, and what are you waiting for? GO GET IT!!! I didn't have than much fun since first Metal Gear Solid I ever played!!!PSBAD SIDE: If you dislike elements of horror too much, maybe you will not like it...

Great.
This is easily one of the best RPGs of the 90s, and in my opinion, even beats out Zelda. The gameplay is surprisingly complex and intense, with dozens of different enemy types, several weapons, annoying puzzles, and numerous power-ups. The graphics are also well-don e for a game of this period. The voice-acting is top notch, and the story is well written and provides the back story for Kain. And yes, for those who don't know, Kain is the ultimate vampire, a cunning, ruthless, amoral and power-hungry fiend whose only goal to avenge himself... until that is done and his ambitions soar farther. This is the first in the Legacy of Kain series, and is a must have title. The brutality begins here.

Great Action-RPG for the PS1
It looks and plays like a darker Zelda (ALTTP). You are a vampire, you kill people, you suck their blood, you have gory magic, etc.Looks and plays great for an early 2D PS1 game. The cut-scenes are the WORST I have seen. But the regular gameplay (95% of the game) is very very solid.Recommended for 2D fans or Action RPG fans.

Brand "spanking" new!
When I ordered this game, I expected it to be pre-owned and in good condtion. When it arrived, I was amazed to see that the game was actually brand new! It was still in the plastic wrap that PS1 games originally came in! Needless to say, I was incredibly pleased with this. Every time I see it in my room now, I get this big goofy smile knowing that I now own a big chunk of nostalgia that's in perfect condition. I would definitely buy this again if I had to.
