I have the original also and in both cases, it works best to have the device sitting on the counter, cutting just the very very bottom. To cut higher on a bottle, you'll want to suspend it over two boxes or two pieces of wood to keep it level. Otherwise your score line spirals around the bottle.This jr has very limited use. And it is NOT a neck cutter, again, it lacks the stability to sit at the base of the neck. The only way to cut a bottle neck is balance it on supporting pieces and squeeze it really tight. The rubber wheels do not form a tight circle around the neck. They come together in more of an oval. If you can manage to keep the bottle rotating while maintaining solid contact with your counter AND keep the clamp pressed firmly against whatever base you rig together than you can get wonderful scores and great cuts. But both products have the tendency to grab and lift the bottle up slightly here and then slightly there.

It does not fit on large wine bottles. I needed it for large bottles.
