Exactly as advertised, sort of.
I'm in with the group that doesn't understand the negative reviews or complaints about this tool. It's well built, with rubber armor all around the edges and works exactly as it's supposed to. As far as advertising it claims to extend detection to both 165' and 330', so which is it? I really don't care because I'll likely never use it beyond 150' anyway. If I was being picky I'd say this should have been designed with the grade line in the middle, 2" from both the top and bottom, with magnets on both top and bottom. I'll likely be using this to level deck rim joists by clamping a metal L shaped piece to the joist top edge and sticking the magnet on it but this works upside down too so that's not much of a problem except for the fast beep above and slow beep below grade feature. Yeah it's a little pricey but I'm using this with a DeWalt DCLE34220GB that has a TSTAK case already has the foam cut out for storing both the grade rod bracket and detector inside. Perfect.

Essential aid for outdoor use!
Works great with the DeWalt DCLE34030G green line laser. Picks up the laser beam even when it's washed out by bright sunlight. It allows the primarily indoor laser to function for small outdoor projects, like decks, siding, etc. instead of using a much pricer rotary laser!

Works great on using outside the building especially if the sun is out
It is very handy and helpful when you layout under the sun and using the green laser cause it’s hard spot where the light is

Great laser detector.
I got a cheaper laser, it does work great inside. But when it's sunny, it doesn't. This solves that problem.

Thrilled
I'm thrilled - in truth, probably because I read so many bad reviews my expectations were so low. Seems like people either have a great experience with this detector, or a terrible one. So far mine has been great.Full disclosure - I'm a former home builder, now builder/owner. Bought the Dewalt DW 089 green laser for a variety of uses, but was quietly hoping it would help me lay out a square foundation without the usual 3-4-5 and other gyrations most people go through - more on that in a second. As to the DW089LG laser and laser detector combo, I was getting readings at 200' (rated at 165'). I used my transit to verify and at 200' the laser was within 1/4"-3/8", so proceed with caution and understand was not designed for that distance.I will also say that at that distance it may take some patience as the beam is not as strong and therefore the detector can be less sensitive (common sense) picking up a signalHere is what I was really thrilled with; the DW089LG has 3 beams. Horizontal, of course, and 2 vertical at a 90 deg angle. By turning the detector sideways you can literally get an accurate 90 degree square reading on your foundation layout - in broad daylight. I set the tripod over the corner pin of the foundation, eyeballed roughly the other corner stake, took the laser detector down to that corner (was still on the stick), turned it sideways and slowly moved aback and forth until it beeped. I have ran every other method I can think of just to verify square - but using the detector sideways for this seems to be spot on
