Love this GPS.
Great GPS. Much better than the old Garmin Montana 700 I had. Bigger screen and has a better grip. Not the fault of the GPS but OnX maps doesn't make a chip for hand held GPS anymore. 😡. Glad that they make a AA battery adapter backup for this GPS.

We bought this to crossover from Miami to Bimini on our boat. It was spot on perfect!

Not what was expected
I can't understand the reviews indicating good performance or ease of use. This is the most disappointing Garmin product I've owned, and by far the most expensive. I've owned (and still own) several Garmin products, including my old stand-by GPSmap 76CSx, with multiple maps. That unit could always get me by, and rarely failed to make a solid connection. But due to age, new maps are no longer available, and the screen is too small for my old eyes. So I bought the Montana 700 thinking it would be a good unit. Not so!The Montana is so complicated to use, due to overabundance of "features" that are of little or no use, that I simply have to sit down in a chair for a while and fight to get it to display the right map, or to establish navigation to any route. I had it with me yesterday, in Mount Vernon, VA, and wanted to get a route home via the unfamiliar streets. I was pressed for time, and simply could not get it to find my established "home" location, much less draw a route! Fortunately, I had my tablet with Karta map installed, and it almost instantly got me out!In addition to the complexity and frustration of configuring the Montana, I find that it frequently crashes, leaving no manner of recovery other than removing the battery pack (fortunately I CAN), the rebooting it. No idea why this happens, but it definitely does, and has happened a number of times. My advice is don't rely on a Garmin Montana to help you out of scrapes. It's more of a coffee table decoration!

Disappointed!
I am a very serious hunter and I use topo maps to digitally scout for deer and big game animals. I have had the Garmin Montana 680t for many years and it is starting to die so I purchased the 700 thinking it would be an upgrade. It advertises that it is preloaded with topo maps. I was excited to receive the unit, charged it up, and turned it on. I was drastically disappointed right away when I pulled the maps up and did not see many topo lines. I began to scroll around to hills and mountains and the map proved useless for being able to see benches, saddles, and spurs that normally would jump out on a topo map that had a sufficient amount of topo lines depicting the topography. Even using the terrain view on Google maps is way better than this. I was drastically disappointed, so began to look for options of what to do. There is an app you can download to your phone that you can download topo maps from. I thought that might save the day by providing better detailed topo maps so I downloaded the app only to discover the topo maps on there are useless for hunting as well. If you are not a serious hunter and don't need really good definition of terrain features, then this unit would maybe not be as disappointing for you, but if you are a hunter, this is NOT a good unit for you to use in my opinion. It is a lot of money for a handheld GPS and the fact that one of the most important components for hunters is useless makes this unit very disappointing in my book. If you are a serious hunter, don't buy this. Get something with much better topo lines already installed. The 680t has sufficient topo maps, so maybe look at that instead even though the screen is smaller and it takes forever to boot up and run. I did a review on my youtube channel of the 680t many years ago if you want to look for it. I would not buy another one of those though because it takes way too long to boot up. At least mine does anyway.God bless you all.
