The Transgender Child: A Handbook for Families and Professionals

My youngest came out last year. FTM. This book is helping me to understand so many things about gender I didn't know. I highly recommend everyone to read this book. Parent, Grandparents, bosses and teachers.

This is a great resource! I work with trans youth and families and this book has some great insight and knowledge for people in various places of acceptance. I also have The Transgender Teen now too! Each book arrived to me in somewhat worn condition with folds/dents that did not look like they came just from packaging/shipping as I got these in two separate orders and the other items that shipped with these were not damaged in any way so it makes me think it came prepackaged a little worn for some reason. It's not a huge deal since I will get use out of these and they will likely get bent up from regular use anyway, it was just strange to get brand new books in this condition. The content is awesome!

This book is truly wonderful. It has all the basic information that folks need to know to understand the concept of transgender kids, but also goes into depth and provides specific strategies for dealing with the host of issues and problems that transkids and their parents, families, and friends have to address.As the parent of a transkid myself, this was my first major resource to gather information and understanding, and I have ordered more than a dozen copies over the past several years to give to teachers, principals, afterschool program supervisors, family members, and friends who needed to understand the big picture.This book is essential for anyone who needs to know more themselves, or who needs to educate others to help protect and support trans children.

As I sat in the pediatric endocrinologist's office with my affirmed daughter for our first visit, he had this book sitting on his desk and offered it to me. He stated it was an excellent book that answered a lot of questions about gender identity, transgender children, transition, etc. I told him I was waiting for Amazon to deliver my copy, I had ordered it a few days before.That's how good this book is.

I found this book informative for myself as a therapist and it is useful for the families as well. It gives a good overview of the developmental issues and the ways that professionals and families can provide support. It covers the difficulties faced by the parents and family members and the grieving process they go through when adjusting to accepting a gender variant love one. It can help anyone gain a deeper understanding of this issue.

As a pastor, our congregation has been supporting a family whose teenager is transitioning. The book was a basic resource to help us understand more about that journey and ways that we could we be supportive.

This is truly a textbook for those of us who are trying to learn all we can on the subject of the transgender child. It's a comprehensive guide that I have found easy to understand and has given me some good tools to help explain what transgender is to the friends and family that are just now being told about our new transboy

this is a great book, read it already 5 times since i got it. im transgender myself and was suggested this book to read and to let my parents read so they can understand what im going through. it has really helped me in my life. LOVE IT

I bought this book to help me understand how to deal with the practical and emotional challenges of bringing up a transgender child. It was easy to read and very helpful. The only downside for me is that being a US publication many of the legal issues and help organisations are only valid in the US. It did provide practical advice on most transgender issues, how to tell people about your child and tips on dealing with schools, etc.

I have found this book very helpful and encouraging and full of very practical information. I recommend it to anyone trying to work out how to be a good parent to a small child who seems unhappy with their birth gender.

With greater tolerance of difference, the real extent of transgender situations is becoming more apparent. This book is a must-read particularly for parents and relatives, but also those in institutions which deal with children, especially schools. Anyone who want factual information about the subject will gain from reading this book.
