Recommended by my dermatologist. I swear you only need to do it a couple of times. The first time for 15 minutes. The second time leave it on for an hour. It is a very foaming shampoo. I use a good moisturizing cream rinse after. It works for flaking and itching and lifting of the scalp!

If you're dealing with scalp psoriasis, this shampoo is a total game changer. Within a few washes, I noticed significantly less flaking, redness, and irritation. It really works - better than anything else I've tried. Now, let’s talk about the smell... it's rough. Strong and medicinal, not something you look forward to in the shower. But honestly, the results make it worth it. I just follow up with a good moisturizing hair mask, which helps soften my hair and masks the scent a bit. Yes, it can be drying, but that’s an easy fix with the right conditioner or mask. For the relief it gives my scalp, I’ll gladly hold my nose and keep using it.

Since T-gel extra strength became difficult to find, I ordered several other brands. I like the Tarsum shampoo the best and I don't think I will go back to T-gel even if it does become available again. I really like this shampoo and for me, it is better at controlling scalp itch than T-gel extra strength. I am sold on this shampoo. There is one problem with the Tarsum and it is the spout. For an old guy approaching 80, the lid is hard to twist open and close if one has soap or shampoo on their hands. The twist lid is so narrow that it does not allow for a good grip with old fingers even if it does have ridges. T

Works great, smells AWFUL. Applied to my dry scalp and left on for about an hour before shampooing it out. It's very thick, and I massage it into my scalp. Makes your hair smell like gasoline or maybe burning tires (not sure which, but it's bad), but I follow it with a regular shampoo and conditioner to help cut the nasty smell if I have to go out that day, which does help although the scent lingers some. It also tends to slightly darken my light-colored hair if I don't follow it with a regular shampoo and conditioner. I've tried the coal tar shampoos and treatments with 1% coal tar, but the Tarsum with 2% just works so much better.

The first time I bought Tarsum, it worked! Prior to that, I had tried almost every brand of psoriasis shampoo sold by Amazon. I’ve suffered with scalp psoriasis since childhood. As I grew older, psoriasis would present itself in my ears, on my eyelids, on my knees, elbows, ankles with smaller patches elsewhere. While I’ve never had a severe case of psoriasis on the rest of my body, the major area of concern was my scalp. After the first application of Tarsum, I immediately felt a change. No more itching or burning! After the second application, my scalp felt and looked NORMAL. No more flaking! I can wear dark colors with confidence! I was thrilled. Since I purchased my first bottle of Tarsum about 5 years ago, the manufacturer no longer makes the larger size; the bottles are now almost half the size they once were, but I buy it because it works. I also used a skin emulsion, Cutar (also sold on Amazon) for the psoriasis on the rest of my body, but it didn’t seem to work as well on my skin as Tarsum does on my scalp. The directions on the Tarsum bottle state to put the shampoo on the scalp for 5 minutes before showering after which you can shampoo/condition with your regular products so there is no lingering tar scent. I thought: why not do the same on the other areas of my body that are affected by psoriasis that I do on my scalp? The result is that Tarsum removes the red, flaky patches from the rest of my body as well as it works on my scalp. I apply the shampoo on my legs and arms and anywhere else I see patches, and after 5 minutes or more, I shower it off and then use my regular soap, rinse again, and then follow up with my regular moisturizer after I dry off.. Tarsum works on my body better than the Cutar skin emulsion, or anything else I’ve used, so now it’s Tarsum for everything that has to do with psoriasis. It is the ONLY product that absolutely works. To think I spent HUNDREDS of dollars every year on prescription solutions that really didn’t work. I buy a $25 bottle of Tarsum and all my psoriasis is GONE. I know psoriasis has no cure, but at least now I don’t have to look like I’m in need of one.

This helps but I still have to use my prescription shampoo.

My psoriasis breakout I’ve been dealing with for two years now is GONE after just TWO TREATMENTS? I’m thrilled but also so annoyed that I didn’t try this product earlier! I’ve been using other coal tar shampoos and salicylic acid ones for two years and all of them maybe helped a little or just kept my patches at bay, but this product literally cleared my entire scalp after two 30 minute uses. I’ll probably keep using it once every week or two just as a shampoo to make sure it doesn’t come back, but I am totally blow away by how well this worked!
