Q: Would this work as a bathroom travel bag?

I'm able to fit a travel size shampoo bottle, toothpaste tube and full size toothbrush, as well as a hairbrush inside. Also was able to add in hair accessories. The bag measures almost 7" in length, 5" in height and 4" depth

Q: How does it close? zipper?

It has a zipper. My little girl is almost 3 now and she loves this little purse! It's a perfect size for little ones!

Q: Are the straps long enough for a child to wear it over their shoulder?

No, the straps are short - just long enough for a child to carry with her hands. It's very small but my Grand daughter loves it!
