Why were dosages reduced by 50% from a few months ago?

The dosages were not reduced. This is our "Vegan" formulation that offers a different combination of tocopherols and tocotrienols. 
Our normal (non vegan) formulation is still available on Amazon.

This formulation has other benefits than our regular formulation.

We have to deal with the fact, long ago alpha-tocopherol has been set as the international standard for vitamin E. Hence, international legislation requires us to express the vitamin E value of each vitamin E product in ‘mg d-alpha-tocopherol equivalent (mg-TE)’ What causes confusion: alpha-tocopherol (obviously’) has a TE of 1, but the other tocopherols and all tocotrienols have a much lower TE value: Tocopherols: Alpha-tocopherol: 1 mg = 1 mg-TE Beta-tocopherol: 1 mg = 0,5 mg-TE Gamma-tocopherol: 1 mg = 0,1 mg-TE Delta-tocopherol: 1 mg = 0,03 mg-TE Tocotrienols: Alpha-tocotrienol: 1 mg = 0,3 mg-TE Beta-tocotrienol: 1 mg = 00,5 mg-TE Gamma-tocotrienol: 1 mg = 0 mg-TE Delta-tocotrienol: 1 mg = 0 mg-TE It may be convenient to know, Vitamin E content as IU is calculated by multiplying mg-TE x 1,49 (100 mg-TE is equivalent to 149 IU) Most vitamin E suppliers aim at a high vitamin E value of 400 IU or more. From above table it is easy to understand, such a value is best achieved by using alpha-tocopherol only. As a matter of fact, you just need to put (400/1,49=) 268,5 mg alpha-tocopherol in a softgel capsule, to have a vitamin E 400 IU formulation. There are many supliers of cheap oils high in alpha-tocopherol, that will allow you to easily create a 400 IU formulation. However, if you start testing these oils (as we did), you may find many oil are (sometimes heavily) poluted with PAHs, GFAEs and/or CPs. Alpha-tocopherol offers – apart from being a fat-soluble antioxidant)- hardly any known health benefits, contrary to eg. gamma-tocopherol, and in particular the tocotrienols.

How much gamma tocopherol and alpha tocopherol are in each capsule?

Gamma tocopherol = 80 mg per capsule
Alpha tocopherol = 34 mg per capsule

Most vitamin E formulations claim a high vitamin E content, such as 400 IU. That is easy to get, just take an oil high in alpha-tocopherol, and make sure a capsule contains 268 mg alpha-tocopherol, which equalizes 400IU.

However, alpha-tocopherol is probably the least interesting of all 8 vitamin E isomers found in nature. Although alpha-tocopherol allows high vitamin E claims, it is mainly used as an anti-oxidant in the food industry, and offers little benefits to the human body, other than being a fat-soluble anti-oxidant.

There are 4 tocopherols (alpha, beta, gamma and delta), and 4 tocotrienols (alpha, beta, gamma and delta). The last decades we have seen a growing interest and research in these 8 vitamin E isomers. In particular the tocotrienols appear to have many beneficial functions, protecting eg brains, heart and liver.

1 mg alpha-tocopherol equals 1,49 IU vitamin E. The other 3 tocopherols and all 4 tocotrienols allow much lower vitamin E claims, 1 mg equalizing up to only 0,04 IU vitamin E. thus, it is easy to understand high quantities of these isomers do not automatically lead to high vitamin E (IU) claims.

In our vitamin T 8 formulation we have focussed more on the tocotrienols than on the tocopherols. We managed to put together a formulation that contains 40 mg tocotrienols per capsules, which would be maintenance dosage for adults. Besides, our formulations contains all 4 tocopherol isomers, leading to a label claim of 150 IU vitamin E, which still is relatively high.

Accepted Answer

The batches are tested by Eurofins in the Netherlands (this is where our main office is located). The requested documentation has been uploaded regarding the analysis and can be found on the productpage among the photo's.

Why did this company change the amount of some of the tocopherols and tocotreinols?

The amount of tocopherols and tocotrienols have been increased in this formula. We have noticed a high demand in high dosed tocopherols and tocotrienols, therefore we also created a few now high dosed formula's which can be found on amazon as well.
