The bag is very durable and made from a plastic like material. The interior of the bag is lined with plastic so it can be easily wiped clean. Can't say that this bag is waterproof per se, but it's definitely water resistant.

Q: I got this bag as a gift is there a link for a replacement strap to buy if mine breaks?

This is a very durable bag and it's hard for me to imagine that the strap would break. For Pete sake you could just use an old belt as a replacement strap.

Q: Are the side pockets zippered? There appears to be two different bags shown in the pictures.

The side pockets have velcro flaps.

Q: How will this handle being in the rain?

It's water resistant, but you couldn't leave it out in the soaking rain for any length of time.
