Different
Let's just say that this book is nothing like the actual series. I thought it would be just like watching it on TV, but there are certain details or events that are completely different. Other than that, it's a very good book, although it's confusing if you're watching the series at the same time.

READ THE BOOKS INSTEAD OF WATCHING THE SHOW
The book is SO much better. I genuinely like all of the characters in the book. The ones in the show got on my nerves all the time. It was extremely annoying. This book is so good and I would definitely recommend to teen girls and young adults. Jackie is a good main character you can sympathize with, and the book doesn’t make light of her situation. It’s about her life, not just the romance. Content warnings: There is cursing throughout, with only one major obscenity (GD). There is obviously kissing but it doesn’t go beyond that. There are sexual innuendos (it’s a house full of boys, after all) but nothing graphic or anything. It’s all actually pretty realistic and not just throwing stuff in for “shock factor.” I really like this book and it is a great heartwarming story about coping with trauma and learning how to make the best of an uncertain situation. I’m excited to read the next book!

Book vs series.
I don’t normally read books that are turned into movies/shows because I think it’s a waste of money. Like the Harry Potter book. It’s exactly like the movie, so why not just watch that instead?? I watched the Netflix series, then decided to buy the first book. I would have to say that the book and show had differences. Since my primal hour of reading is on the bus on the way to work or because I can’t sleep, the book was an easy read and easy to follow. I bought the second book and have to say I am quite frustrated with it. I don’t feel like the second one is really following the second season. I may try to reread it at a later time. I felt like in the first book, they didn’t have as many characters like in the show. I am rewatching the first season and second. I don’t know if this is true , but there’s going to be third season. At the end of the scone season, there was a cliffhanger indicating that Jackie picked Cole. , but in the book, the FIRST book clearly ended with her picking Cole , so I have no idea what the second book is. Hayley and Will’s wedding was in the first book and the series, it was the second season.

Trigger warning - cliff hanger
This book ends on a cliffhanger and there is no second book inside as of right now. Although, I did see when I was googling for a second book that she is considering writing a second book on these lovely characters since the TV show has been such a great hit and is moving along to a second season. I absolutely love the dynamic between Cole and Jackie both in the book and in the TV show. Cole is just broken and heartwarmingly smoldering. I personally feel as though the casting of Cole Walter in the TV show is spot on. Now I know that Alex is a sweet boy, but I never really jived with his personality with Jackie. She is such a straight laced person she needs someone that pulls her out of her comfort zone and makes her more. Cole Walter does all that and more for her. I want to call Walter in my life

Grief Portrayal/ Love Triangle Thoughts
The way Novak writes grief is so relatable. Movies, tv shows and even books portray grief as an all consuming devastating thing. And sure. It can be. The moment they tell you? Your knees buckle. The sounds of your sobs cutting through the air sound like the mournful wails of some other person over some other dead relative. In that moment it feels unbelievable that you're capable of making such noises. But grief after that crushing moment? It's different. Take any one of your loved ones. You think about them more often than you realize. My dad for instance. Everytime I see the following, it reminds me of him: rice pudding, tostito scoop chips, mtn dew, LSU, or blue plaid. Alive, it's a nothing thought. Walking down the aisles of a store and I see a blue plaid shirt "dad has a shirt just like this" but after he passed. Those little remembrances were still there. Only immediately after I think "oh that's right. Dad's dead" and for a moment, I'm sad he can't like blue plaid shirts anymore. Novak writes Jackie's grief like that, in the most relatable way. 10/10 for how she portrayed Jackie's grieving. But as far as the love triangle? It's lack luster and anticlimactic. It was so extremely petty. The brothers were literally fighting over Jackie like she was the TV remote the entire time. They didn't want her for her, they wanted her because she was a prize and that's it. A brothers pissing contest. The end all be all moment where she chooses the other brother fell FLAT. All this for...that? Yeah. It wasn't a bad book but the love triangle was just... an aggressive MEH for me.

Com o livro a gente consegue entender melhor as atitudes da Jackie e de Alex e nos apaixonamos perdidamente pelo Cole, apesar de ameaçar ter um triângulo amoroso aqui, ele passa bem despercebido

Bought the book because I saw the episodes on Netflix. Even if the TV shows are normally inspired by books, I have to say Netflix production did an excellent job, because the book is not engaging, terribly written with nothing happening that creates some kind of unexpected situation- even the characters are poorly differentiated
