The Gender Quest Workbook: A Guide for Teens and Young Adults Exploring Gender Identity

This work book, just at page 21, has been more helpful than any internet search, tik tok video or article I’ve read. This book makes zero assumptions about you (besides that you are struggling to understand your gender) and gives you amazing informational paragraphs and the follow up sections where you respond to questions that think about yourself in a less messy way. When I think about my gender I get just a blob of confusion and feel overwhelmed, this work book is making it easier to STOP AND THINK about smaller things slowly. 10/10. So great. It’s starting to make sense. This book is making the start of thinking about my gender less scary. I will update!!!

This workbook is a wonderful resource for teens and young adults who have questions about their gender. The authors present complex information in clear language with plenty of examples, followed by questions and exercises to help each youth develop deeper self-understanding. The writing is gentle, wise, affirming, cautious when it needs to be, and inclusive of a wide range of gender identities and experiences. While The Gender Quest Workbook is presented as a self-help book for teens, it is also a sophisticated how-to book for parents and professionals who want to engage a young person in discussion about how they experience gender and what they need to do to live safely and authentically. I wholeheartedly recommend this book!

I use this book with my clients who are struggling with their gender identity. I have the kindle version and follow along with them while we work through the assignments and explore their gender identity. Well written and easy to follow for my young adolescent clients, but not too campy for my older adolescent clients.

Our teenage daughter recently declared herself to be transgender (Male to female), and now we're working with her to complete the process. We want our children to feel comfortable, loved, and accepted as they are. This book - paired with "The Transgender Teen: A Handbook for Parents and Professionals Supporting Transgender and Non-Binary Teens" - is making the journey so much easier for her and us. Because of the circumstances surrounding our daughter (special needs), we have chosen to assist her with understanding the material (and she does understand it, which is a credit to the author!).

I use this is therapy for questioning youth. It is a clear guide to help them (and their families) walk thru the many aspects of gender identification. Very neutral meaning anyone could work thru these exercises and gain self awareness about their gender identification, even if it is cis-gender.

I have purchased this for three clients and all three have loved the book and found it very useful. I also purchased a copy for my supervisees and supervisor! The book does a great job of walking clients through the process of self-identification and coming out, or simply meeting them where they are at. It's a high-quality therapist resource.

I am an LCSW at a school. I pick and choose what to do with my clients from this book. Some of the j do seems outdated maybe written by someone who isn’t young which was not what I expected as it is supposed to be for teens.

I was extremely happy to purchase this book written by the very talented as astute Dr. Testa. I haven't yet had the chance to read it cover to cover, but I can definitely attest that it is full of incredibly pertinent and useful information and I would highly recommend it to anyone intersted in the topic of gender incongruity/creativity and the journey towards self-acceptance in children.
