Q: Does the child have to blow into the trumpet to make noise or does it just make noise when you push the buttons?

The child has to blow into the trumpet. Holding the keys also makes different sounds, teaching them a difference in notes. It's a great starter instrument for a child who already has the basic hand, eye coordination.

Q: is it really made in Italy?

It has survived a VERY active 2 yr old grandson for 6 months!!! They live a distance from us but I will ask if it has Italy written on it!!!

Q: What age is this for?

I would say 3-4. A younger child may not have the lung capacity to get any sound out of it and an older child would be bored by it. It has a high-pitched, harmonica sound which is not very loud. The buttons are kind of far apart. My 3 yo is just able to reach all of the buttons with the fingers of one hand.

Q: Would this be too “babyish” for an 8 year old?

My six-year-old loves it although she got it when she was five. I got all three together from First Note - it looks identical to this one what comes in a set of three with a clarinet and saxophone. I would recommend that for an eight year old but the trumpet is her favorite and the other ones are too difficult for her at this point
