Q: what size should I order for Chihuahua dachshund mix. His chest measures 19 inches

Chihuahua dachshund mix with a 19 inch chest????? Are you sure you are measuring this correctly??? The size chart for this harness for 19" chest is LARGE. I would think that for a Chihuahua dachshund mix a SMALL would prob be fine. My male Cocker Spaniel is 23lbs and he wears MEDIUM and my female is 20lbs and wears a SMALL. With a larger harness you can actually tighten the harness with the velcro strap which is under the fastener but you want to make sure it fits snuggly otherwise your dog may slip through it.

Q: Is the leash elastic?

The leash is a tightly braided cord. NOT PLASTIC. Very sturdy. The handle dies contain a dense foam covering.

I ordered a small in this harness because the XS that I ordered in a different style was too small. My Shih Tzu puppy was about 6 to 7 pounds when ordered. She slipped out of it the first time, but I tightened the Velcro and never had another problem. She is 11 pounds now and it still fits fine. Love this harness and leash combo so ordered a medium for when she reaches her max of 14-15 pounds.
