Works good but oof!
Was hoping that spreading some of this dust would be easy with this thing. What I didn't realize is the muscle that needs to go into turning this handle for about 30mins... they really need to make one of these with a motor and a battery. I was trying to dust around the garden then around the house... then I figured I would do the yard... I regret doing that. All I have been trying to do since I first spead dust using this device is finding some way I could hook my drill to it. It works perfectly fine for small areas, I like the way it screens the dust to help break it up then blow it out... it's just the mechanics of it hurt your wrists after some time.

Great for spreading diatomaceous earth
I should have bought this years ago. Yes I have to readjust how I am holding it after a while as it can be fatiguing holding and cranking but compared to the little hand pump models this thing spreads DE finely and easily, over the tops and under the bottoms of the leaves. I have a larger garden than many and raise enough cabbage and other brassicas for the year for us, and flea beetles are the bane of my existence. This thing has simplified and sped up my ability to dust the plants and I no longer mind doing this chore. Use a lot less DE than sprinkling by hand which I would end up reverting to out of frustration with the little hand pump models (which are great for other applications such as chicken dusting). I have only had it for a month or so and I can’t comment on how long it will last but it seems reasonably constructed and if I am careful with it think it will last for a few years anyway.

Absolute junk & waste of money
Where to start with all the defects of this product. Most issues are mentioned in other Amazon reviews of this product. Leaks sulfur dust out bottom holes/gaps in the unit profusely. Huge 1/4 inch gaps along the bottom & sides of this unit spills materials straight out the bottom. Dusting material constantly spills from the tube the instant it goes below level. Constantly have to "knock back" material from the end of the spray tube/diffuser to get it to back to the hopper. The eject tube is egg shaped and diffuser doesn't rotate unless you remove it totally. Used unit only 3 times. 3rd time the plastic gears are grinding and locking up now making the unit totally unusable, unless we pay more $'s for replacement gears now on this horrible designed and constructed product. Seriously, after 3 times of use to bust is atrocious and this issue is mentioned in several other reviews. The bad engineering, lack of quality control, gaps in the plastic housing of the unit that let dusting material free fall out of the duster( even when not cranking it), and stripping of the plastic gears after only 3 uses should be warning to all this product is pure junk and crap. Save you money and do not buy this product. Would return this junk Dustin -Mizer, but we are 1 month past the return window, now. Unless you want to spill more dusting material than you apply, constantly have to knock back material from the tube to the hopper, and are ok with it busting/stripping gears of the crank after a couple uses, avoid this garden duster!! TOTAL CONFIRMED JUNK!!!!Update 8/21/24-- With the help of Amazon Customer services ,we did contact the seller directly and were able to have Dustin Mizer ship us a new replacement unit in Aug 2024 and they supplied a return label to return the initial defective unit( gears jammed up after 2 or 3 uses). Cu-dos to Dustin Mizer for standing behind their 1 year satisfaction guarantee of their product, even though it was a couple weeks past the 30 day return window of Amazon. Will update later how this unit holds up long term. Figured out cutting small pieces of pool noodle foam and inserting into the gaps in the bottom & side of the unit that spill fine grade sulfur dust has helped greatly to reduce the waste of unwanted spillage the gaps allow. Thank you Joel of Dustin MIzer for standing behind your products and replacing it for us. I have changed the initial 1 star rating of this product to 3 stars now in-light of their shipping a new unit and accepting the initial unit back.

Some may have unrealistic expectations.
Ok understand some of the 4 star reviews, and maybe some of the 3 stars, but here is my take on this product. I have a large garden and have been gardening for many years. I think some people are expecting to much from this product. I love using DE on my garden instead of toxic chemicals. I have always used and cussed the old pump style dusters. I have just used this product for the first time today to treat my large garden in about 15 minutes. It emitted a very fine, uniform, and consistent dust. Some have said it is not comfortable to crank and uncomfortable to hold. I found just the opposite. Yes the crank system seemed to have more resistance than I expected, but not to a level I found it difficult to operate, and I am over 50. It was significantly nicer to use in all aspect than my pump duster. As far as being able to aim and crank at the same time, it was hands down 10 times easier than the pump duster. I needed a lot less DE to treat my garden. I used less than 1 cup of DE from the hopper, and the nice thing was I was able to put a light dust over the entire ground as well as the plants. Is it going to last for 10 years? I don't know, but for the price if I had another one every couple of years I'm okay with that. I will say I did not test to see if it would deliver dust at the distance advertised, but for my use this was not a concern. It will deliver further than my pump duster, that much I can attest to. I found I had a lot of control by turning the crank faster or slower. I did remove the outer cover before use, and lubed the plastic gears with lithium grease. In regards to the crank falling off as other reviews have indicated, there is a set screw in the packaging to permanently attach handle I think others may have missed this in the packaging. I do not see the handle falling off if properly assembled using this additional screw. I also could not support that the unit leaked the dusting material from any area on the hopper or tube. However I would not argue that the material seems light weight, some have said flimsy, but it appears to be adequate for personal use. It probably would not stand up to heavy commercial use. Additionally I found the screen that others have complained about to serve the purpose well, but if it ever is a problem it appears, it would be easy to fabricate a new screen from hardware cloth, and replace it yourself. So if your using a pump duster and don't expect a unit that's going to dust your garden for you, I would buy this product again.
