Q: What is the height from the deck railing to the bottom of the hook?

Hi, the bottom of the hook is 22.5" above the deck railing. Hope this helps. I have two of these and they are fantastic.

Q: How far out does the hook extend from the rail?

If you attach it to the railing and take a close measurement from railing to centerline of the hook, it's probably 10 inches, it's enough to place a plastic hanging basket that you purchase from a garden shop. I like them and they are made well. I use it for hanging humming bird feeders from it. I did have a hanging plant from it.

Q: My railing is 2 " but it has a support railing underneath that leaves only 1" for a clamp to attach. How much space is needed for the clamp below?

The bottom knob + screw, when opened all the way, extends 2.5 inches below the bottom lip of the clamp. If your support railing will get in the way of that, then it can't be used. There is, however a hole in the top lip of the clamp that you can use to nail the bracket into your deck. So you can try removing the bottom screw altogether and nailing the bracket from the top.

Q: How much weight can this hold?

The hook is an iron rod with an iron base that by itself could hold a significant amount of weight without bending out of shape. It will hold a large plant or feeder without problem. What needs to be considered is how much weight the railing or base you are attaching it to can hold.
