Does it stay cool like it says it does?

Gel infusing is better for coolness that not having gel infused, but neither are a cool mattress to sleep on. The key to making them sleepably cool is to put a layer of breathable material, with enough 'fluff' to create an insulating air barrier.

I've been sleeping on memory foam for over 20 years. I've had numerous injuries to my body, and was at my wit's end looking for a restful, pain free sleeping solution.  When I started looking at memory foam, initially there was one mattress option: Tempurpedic. They are good, but very over priced. I found a company in SF selling plain memory foam. I had to learn a lot about memory foam, and how to make it cool & comfortable to sleep on.

The best 'mattress cover' I've been able to design is two layer of stretch cotton, (basically T-shirt material-there is an industry name for it, but I am blanking on it), with two layers of bamboo 'fill' material between the cotton. Pre-wash all the material BEFORE sewing together. I made a pad the same size as the mattress, then used normal, cheap bed sheeting to extend the sides and both ends, so it could be tucked under the mattress.

I suppose you could make a pad and sew it to a fitted cotton sheet... just thought of that.

Hope this helps someone; sleeping on memory foam, combined with other changes took 20 years off my age. It was a remarkable change, and has allowed me to function at near normal for the last 20+ years.

Question 2

Is this item ment to be cut to fit the matress? I got a California King sized, but it seems alot bigger than my matress which is that size.

I'm not sure, Mine I bought was a twin and fit good. Maybe your mattress isn't really considered a California King which would make the topper bigger.

Can you use the 4" topper as a stand alone matress in a truck camper

Memory foam is meant to have a foam base under it. Memory foam collapses over time, but it's 'memory' is that it returns to it's original shape.  For a 4" memory foam mattress, you should have at least 3-4" of conventional foam, a futon, or a mattress underneath it.  The best would be conventional foam, though to get the true weightlessness feel of memory foam, you need a 3-4" layer of conventional foam, then 3-4" of dense memory foam, (5+ lbs/cubic foot), topped with a lighter density memory foam, (like this, which is 3.5 ibs/cubic ft, according to seller.)

If you are heavier in body weight, you need to use 4" or thicker foam.   It will take a bit of research to get it just right, but when you do, you feel no pressure points, and truly feeling like you are 'floating' on the finished mattress.
