Q: I just bought this camera and the display screen is black even when camera is on? I dont understand why its black.

I also have a black screen with the camera on and the lens cap off. The date is also reset to 1970/01/01 (previously it was another date). There doesn't seem to be any actual reference to this problem.

Q: When connected as a webcam, how can you use the camera's microphone?

you might try going to the "recording devices" (in Windows 8.1 you right click on the speaker icon in the lower right hand corner of the screen) on your computer and look for a device that has a name like the camera name click it, click properties, click enable device, then disable any other microphones that are enabled, click apply, it should work

Q: The remote is working (I see the light flashing), the camera is on, but when I push a button on the remote nothing happens on the camera?

I had the same problem. I had to remove the front lens attachment because it was blocking the remote sensor which is located directly above the lens. If you have that attachment on, the remote will not work.
