This book is wonderful and puts everything into perspective. Henry Cloud and John Townsend are such great biblical counselors and have helped my growth immensely.

Absolutely loved this book! It's insights and quirks are easy to read and digest whether the reader already has faith in Jesus or not!

This is an excellent book that will free you from a number of spiritually debilitating falsehoods that hinder your growth. Get out of the strongholds of legalistic garbage. This is a well-thought-out, well-written book that is an easy read and very relatable. We can all identify with these common struggles. Now get free of them!

No matter how well we are raised or how good is our church in forming our hearts and thoughts about God, we tend to pick up broken and faulty "beliefs" that impact our emotional health. Unrecognized, these belief keep us from the maturity and freedom the Lord wants us to have. Cloud and Townsend wrote this book nearly 20 years ago, but it remains an important tool in helping us think more accurately and functionally about living out our freedom in Christ. l listened to it while walking, and then bought the print and ebook versions because I want to study it more deeply to be able to share it with others. I highly recommend it.

This book discusses some important misconceptions that plague Christians. The authors point out the fallacies that create these misconceptions and use the Bible in context to show the truth. This is a book I would love to study with a small group because of these misconceptions need to be addressed in churches everywhere.I felt very positive after reading the book and have a better outlook on other Christians as well. The authors present the material in a caring way which encourages the reader to move on from these errors and grow spiritually as they should. I strongly recommend this book.

There’s always different perspectives out there, but this is the one that leads to freedom from the unhealthy ones people can take. But don’t take my word for it, read it for yourself!

There are so many more misconcepts within supposedly 'Christ-centered' cultures that are based on concepts from our parents, etc., that worked for them, but does not fit our personality, etc in this day and age and how we live now. I do understand that Jesus is the same, yesterday, etc., and He never changes; however that is Jesus and not the concepts that are not based on anything but the culture we grew up in....Just not a good rationalization for overall answers to questions. This is a good book to start with and I believe the authors should expand into more areas of cultural rather than Biblical basis. We try so hard as humans to rationalize that if something is true, then God must........(fill in the blanks) when our God does not think from our human rationalizations.

My counselor recommended this to me as part of my healing from spiritual abuse. I loved that it is full of spiritual references to back up their ideas and easy to understand examples. It has helped me differentiate between what I was taught about being a "good" person and what Christ really intended me to be. A great read for anyone who feels trapped by not being good enough or feels overwhelmed when reading scripture or hearing a sermon. Cloud and Townsend help clear up the confusion that comes from self shaming or guilt to show how Christ intended His teachings to lead us closer to him.

Good expository perspective and analysis of common Christian misconceptions and beliefs. Really helped me to develop a deeper understanding of difficult passages and misconceptions. Easy to read and understand, as well. Glad I bought this book, and highly recommend it to anyone wanting to overcome difficult issues in their lives.

I basically got this because I wanted to understand where those "Crazy Maker" gets the ideas. This book explains not just what is wrong but why they think what they do, even where in the Bible they "think" backs up their ideas. I would love to see Part 2 of this book come out.
