I've gone through many lap desks looking for one I really like. I've never used one for longer than a few months before wanting to try a different one. All of them had the same problem: my laptop wouldn't grip the desk. They're almost all angled and my laptop would slide down. I have a MacBook Pro, so the bottom isn't grippy on its own. I've tried plain lap desks like this one and cooling lap desks that have fans in them. This one is by far my favorite. It is entirely covered in grippy material. In fact it feels like a piece of sheet metal covered in rubbery grippy material. Very simple, but it works! My laptop goes nowhere on this thing; it stays put.Another huge bonus I didn't even think about until I got it is that it's packable. It is small enough to place inside my laptop travel bag and take with me! I can take this thing with me on vacation, or anywhere I take my laptop. The 15" size version of this lap desk is the same width as my 15" MacBook Pro, and about two inches deeper. So it sticks out about two inches beyond the back. That may be a problem packing it in some bags, but it fits my messenger bag and a backpack I have that contains a laptop compartment. No other lap desk I've owned would be able to pack along with my laptop. Again, it wasn't even something I was looking for in a lap desk but it turned into a huge benefit. If I'm traveling for a week it's so nice to have my lap desk with me.Another huge bonus is the price. This is by far the least expensive lap desk of all the ones I've tried. At any rate, I highly recommend giving this one a shot.

I am using this with a 15" late 2013 Macbook Pro. This product might be perfect for a Macbook Air or other laptop that doesn't generate as much heat as the Macbook Pro (or, if you just don't mind your lap getting warm). I like to work in a recliner chair, which means I have my Macbook Pro in my lap for about 8 hours a day. There are two problems using the Macbook Pro in your lap. The first is that the Macbook Pro has no gripping whatsoever, meaning it can easily slide around on your lap. The other major problem is that the Macbook Pro gets very hot. This product is surrounded by a rubberized grip, meaning the first problem is solved - my Macbook Pro no longer slides all over the place. As far as protecting my lap from the heat of the Macbook Pro, it does a mediocre job. After about 15 minutes of use, the entire lap desk gets warm. After about 30 minutes of use, the lap desk gets uncomfortably hot to the point that I have to take a break. If I'm doing heavy computing or charging the battery, the lap desk gets too hot after even 5 minutes (although still nowhere near as hot as having the Macbook Pro directly in my lap). I would say this product seems to protect my lap from 75% of the heat of my Macbook Pro, but considering the amount of heat that it puts off, 75% isn't good enough. For more casual users, that might be all the heat protection you need, however.One solution is to just take frequent breaks, and let the lap desk cool off to room temperature. For someone trying to get work done, however, taking a break every 15 minutes just isn't the best solution. If you want to comfortably work for prolonged periods of time with a Macbook Pro in your lap, you really need a cooling pad, something that has fans in it that will dissipate the heat. These actually cool off my lap during use, and feel very nice. The problem with some of them is that they can be a little too heavy. I recommend this one, because it only weighs about two pounds.CM Storm SF-15 - Gaming Laptop Cooling Pad with 160mm Fan and Retractable FeetThe problem with the above product is that the bottom of it isn't very comfortable against my lap - it's not really designed to be resting on a lap - so the solution is to set it on this product in your lap. Since this product is very lightweight, I have found that combining this product with the above CM Storm SF-15 - Gaming Laptop Cooling Pad gives the best of both worlds. Set your Macbook Pro on the Gaming Laptop Cooling Pad (or your cooling pad of choice), and then set both on this product. Your lap will be exposed to a soft, smooth surface while also staying free from almost all of the heat from your Macbook Pro.So to summarize this review, I recommend purchasing this product. If you find that its ability to keep your lap cool isn't sufficient, then combine it with a cooling pad, like the product linked above.10/30 Edit: I actually switched from using this product to the following product: Targus Space Saving Lap Chill Mat for Laptop up to 17-Inch, Gray/Black (AWE80US)The Targus product will remove 100% of the heat from your lap, and is a much better solution for working long hours with a laptop in your lap. Again, get this Grifiti Deck if your needs don't involve working long hours with a very hot laptop in your lap. This Grifiti Deck is great for short intervals of laptop use, or those who don't mind their lap getting a little warm - it's by far the most effective product for this price range and an order of magnitude more comfortable than working without any protection at all between your lap and the laptop. But get the Targus product if you need a more powerful cooling solution for your lap desk needs. The Targus product has adjustable height angles and will actively cool the laptop with fans.

For of all, let me say that it got here QUICK.Ordered February 27th at 10:00PM, was at my door February 29th at 12:00PM.The Gifiti Lap Desk is very sturdy in design.The neoprene cover keeps my laptop from sliding even at steep angles when I laying down.Before, I would just have to reposition when I feel my laptops' hot vent.Now, I have this deck that I can lay my 15.6" Gateway Laptop on to protect my thighs and more importantly, my gonads!The lap desk actually felt slightly heftier than I expected, the aluminum core seems to think enough to prevent any heat from seeping through.There is virtually no bend with this product, which shows me that it is a quality product. The neoprene fabrication does also feel very high quality.With my laptop sitting at the very front of the lap desk I have about a 1 and a half inch space in the back, which is great!If you're working from home and you have a 15.6" or larger laptop, I would recommend getting the 17" size just because of the extra size.If you're planning to do some commuting, I would recommend buying the 13" or 15" version just for the added portability.Usage as a writing desk is pretty good as well!Works like a large clipboard, however, you should be careful not to poke any holes through the paper!In conclusion:As a student that regularly uses their computer as well as write paper by hand, this is a must have.I can now sit or lay down in a comfortable position without risking frying my thigh or gonads.Excellent product, very high quality, I know that this will last me for a long long time.

I've been using these pads for my laptops but they don't hold up. I find bits of sponge and debris wherever I leave my laptop. Wish it held up better because I do like the design, weight, etc.
