The Tribe: A New World

Basically Fan Fiction
If you have seen the New Zealand science fiction soap opera, "The Tribe," and wondered what happened next, this book will fulfill some of your desires. It is written in a similar fashion to the series itself, action but primarily a lot of soap opera like elements with multiple characters, romance, and too complex storylines. The problem is that the quality of the writing is basically like decent fanfiction -- odd grammar, misspelling, typos, and some plot holes as though the author is the only one who did the editing (maybe that is true). Considering how expensive the book is, those problems weigh heavily when you read.

Disappointing in many ways
Having been a fan of the TV series, and after reading so many glowing reviews for this book here, I decided to give it a go. All I can say is it was just okay: not great, not even really good. It was intriguing to get a sense of what might have happened to the Mall Rats, but there is too much concentration on Ram (who I thought overwrought as a character in the series and I also disliked the whole concept of the Technos that spawned that character). And there is too much "glossing over" who the characters are as individuals and how each became the way he/she is.Someone in another review said you didn't have to be familiar with the series to read and enjoy this book: that's a big negatory. You really have to know who the characters are when you start reading because within the book itself they are not really fleshed out or put into much context as to their various views of/positions in the world around them. And the book goes overboard in many areas with regard to the sufferings of a few of The Tribe, in particular Bray, who I doubt really could have survived so much continued torture.***SPOILER***The book also recycles plots from the series. Case in point: the whole Zootist cult and the leader of that cult seeking to "acquire" Trudy and her baby Brady because of their connection to the dead Zoot. And that tribe on the island where the Mall Rats wind up? Basically it's the Eco Tribe revisiited, even if this particular new tribe is really an existent native people..****END SPOILER***Long story short: I found the book interesting enough to finish, but I don't think I would recommend it to anyone.

Entertaining and well written!
Imagine a Post-apocalyptic world where the adults have perished and children are left to fend for themselves. This is the premises for the amazing brain child of The Tribe, created by Raymond Thompson and the lovely folks from the company Cloud 9, based in New Zealand. This book can be read without prior background because every character is described vividly, and you can get a real feel for the struggle the main characters go through. The book is filled with tension, evil villains, and a taste of science fiction thrown in for good measure. If you like this book, I highly recommend the 5 season long production of The Tribe which is available of DVD. This show takes on real issues that face teenagers, rather than sugar-coating it like a lot of the shows today do. It's dedicated fans are still as devoted today as they were back in 1999 when the production began, which speaks volumes of the quality and care Raymond has put into his work. However, even if you have no background on The Tribe, and you have a love for well written novels aimed for young adults, this book is right for you. I was unable to put it down for hours, and enjoyed every moment. And if you are already a fan of The Tribe, this book is a must have! It picks up where season 5 ended off, and it satisfies years of yearning for more. As many have said, it's like a whole season in a book, and it stays true to the original content, keeping its audience in mind. This book has truly been a gift for me to have, after being a fan of The Tribe for so long. Enjoy the read, take the message of teamwork and love into your heart, and Keep The Dream Alive!

OUTSTANDING
This novel is based upon the television series, The Tribe. It ran for five seasons and has a cult following around the world. Since the last broadcast so many people are desperate for more.I was thrilled to learn that a novel was to be released. Thinking it would be like a season 6. But it is SO much more. The author has cleverly introduced new elements, characters and situations while at the same time refering to the past Tribe history. It is a gripping narrative. A real page turner. Full of drama, suspense, action, adventure, unexpected twists and turns, romance, humor and heartache. I just couldn't put it down.I don't normally write reviews of any books. But this one is so special, I just had to share my enthusiasm. It is highly recommended. Better than I could ever expect.I'm sure any Tribe fan will love it as I much as did if they miss the series and want a Tribe fix.But for those who DON'T know the series and like stories with a dystopeon backdrop, they will really get into it too. No doubt about it. You won't need to have seen the series to enjoy.A cracking good read. Now I can't wait for the next one! And find myself desperate to find out what happens next. Yet again!!!

Brilliant read
I loved this book. I watched the tribe when I was nine years old with my two sisters every Saturday morning without fail and I was so gutted when season six was cancelled and I didn't get to find out what happened to the characters after fleeing the city on the boat so I was so happy to finally get a bit of closure. I can't wait to get the next one.

Tribe fan
I confess I am an adult Tribe fan, I absolutely love it; despite the fact that they wear the same clothes for years and the continuity is non existent. I was incredibly sad when the series finished so when I saw the book I was delighted. I enjoyed the continuation of the story, and I liked where it went with the plot. It opened up new avenues and left many questions to be answered, which is good. it was an excellent plot but the big negative for me, was that the writing was poor. I knew it probably wouldn't be Jennifer Fallon, Ken Follet etc etc level, but I didn't expect it to be quite as poor as it was. the trouble is I don't even know why I thought the writing was poor. It didn't make me want to read it again, and in my books that is definitely bad. So If you're a Tribe fan, it was certainly worth buying. I will buy the next books if there are any more but other than that its a no from me.

The Tribe season 6 and Closure
I loved the Tribe as teenager and was so happy when I found out that season 6 was in book form. All the characters get mentioned from the Guardian (Jaffa) to Alice even Zandra! Plot holes get filled in and some get papered over! This is a fitting end to the Tribe TV show. If your a massive Tribe fan you'll love this!I can not recommend it enough but it does leave room for season 7 in book form as well. Even if that does not happen I would be happy with this as the official end to the Tribe! Keep the dream alive and Power and Chaos to you all!

If you loved the TV series, READ this!
If you loved The Tribe TV series and grew up with it like I did, you NEED to read this. I’m now in my thirties but as with many others I watched this in my teens. I should have found this years ago! Season 5 left us all in limbo not knowing what had become of the characters we loved - this paints the picture perfectly. Read it!
