i returned this particular kit altogether, go for the astro brand instead.

It depends on who made the Riv-nuts. Mine are as follows. 10/32 thread 19/64" drill 1/4-20 thread 23/64" drill 5/16-18 thread 29/64" drill 3/8-16 thread 1/2" drill You need to use a bit that provides a hole that is just large enough to slide the Riv-nut into. Lee

Q: How do you determine what should be the amount that the rivet nut is compressed?

When you apply pressure there will be a sudden sharp rise in resistance. This happens when the back side of the rivet nut flattens against the panel. Any more pressure and you risk stripping the rivet nut.
