Q: How often do I need to change the liquid in the feeder to protect the hummingbirds from mold etc. ?

Hello. Every 3 days is a good rule of thumb. That said, this is not a hard and fast rule. It is always a good idea to check your feeder at least once daily to make sure the nectar has not become cloudy. If/when this begins to happen, it is time to clean your feeder and replace for sure. I don't know the answer regarding the ph level. Since I don't want to drink the tap water myself, I use filtered water for the hummingbirds as well.

Q: Does this need to be refrigerated after opening

Hello. The nectar does not need to be refrigerated, as the bag/pouch is flushed with nitrogen (an inert gas). That said, if the bag is tipped such that air is allowed to "burp" into it, then it would need to be refrigerated (and would last about a month). We always encourage you to refrigerate, if you have the room to do so, just in case this may have occurred. I hope this helps!
