I have bought several Pi books for self edification. This 2nd ed book by Simon Monk is definitely one of the better written ones as a "INTRO" to this subject matter- Pi and Python. It is presented in a self tutorial style format made it a great read that perked ones interest to want to learn!!! Concise, well written and apparently reviewed prior to publishing compared to other texts I have acquired. Great Learning format that builds with each chapter in an organized manner. As a 50+ yr/o self learning a new field, this text is a GO-To-Text. I personally like a hard copy of reference materials, besides online when away from home. Keep up the good work Simon and staff.

Very good Python starter book for anyone, even if you are fluent in similar languages
I have been a programmer for a long time. In the last 15 years, I have used VB6, C/C++ and now Python. With this book and 3 half days of playing, I picked enough to produce my first reasonable program. Oh, yeah, some help from Google searches helped, too. I will go back to the book because I have SO MUCH to learn and this book delivers what you need to know with examples and tables of useful commands groups together. Recommended. If there is a follow-up book for Python from Mr. Monk, I will get it when I get through this one. He has had lots of experience publishing books like this and it shows.

Very Basic, and uses Python 3.x not 2.x
This is a very basic book. If this is what you are wanting, then it's a great book. My main issue is for some reason the author chose to use Python 3.0 instead of 2.x. I've taken 4 Python courses and they all use Python 2.x for various good reasons. This is not a book for people who know python even a little bit. I think I was expecting a book for people who wanted to learn the Raspberry PI. But the title clearly states 'Getting started with Python' not the Raspberry. That my fault.

Very Good Python Reference Book; Beginner Friendly
After buying my first Raspberry Pi and using it to take 4 or 5 Internet of Things courses on Coursera, I thought it would be good to have a Python reference manual and chose this book.I have 20+ years in IT and have programmed in multiple languages so, this was not a difficult book for me. Nevertheless, it is written in such a manner that I think a beginner could also benefit from it. It is well organized and the concepts are well illustrated.

Good book for beginners
This book is a good value. It is a good way to get started with a Pi. Teaches you how to set up the Pi and the basics of programming in Python with example code. I bought this guy's Arduino book too. It was also a good read. This book isn't comprehensive but it is definitely a good starting point which is what I was looking for. You can get your feet wet and after reading this book you can decide if you want a more comprehensive book and you will also have a better idea of what kind of comprehensive book you need.

As a Programmer who have never coded in Python before, I found this book and it's examples quite good. Got me to where I needed to be to take things to a whole new level and make learning Python easy. If you are not already a seasoned programmer, this might be a bit more challenging because you have to learn how programming works while also learning Python. Certainly not where I would start, mostly because Python syntax is quite different from most other commonly used languages.5 star because it is exactly what it says it is and does a great job showing how to program in Python.

The amount of code provided is minimal but maybe just enough
I would have liked this book to have more code examples, and not show so much of its python at the command line. I like code samples within small working programs. There was not as much of that as I like. It did help me quickly get a footing in python new to me, so was of value. It plus an internet search was sometimes how I'd proceed.

Great resource
It's a fast read. Informative. It does help to learn the programming language "Python". First critique would be that it needs to be a larger book with a deeper look into the language. Second, it is not written for the raspberry pi 3. It is for the prior version.Still, it is a resource well worth the few dollars it cost. More than enough to get you started down road Pi.

Really enjoyable introduction to Pi and python.
I’ve got a fairly long history with home computers, and some experience programming in Visual Basic, but am new to Python and the Raspberry pi.I was a bit hesitant to buy this book as it is based on the Pi 2 rather than the latest Pi 4, but I needn’t have worried.A really well written and accessible book, with lots of pointers to how to learn more. A very enjoyable book, and I’m glad I bought it.

Very good book for beginners, if you know any previous language and wants to quickly jump on Python, I recommend this book.
