Overall Height is about 9 Inches tall. A good solid flat surface works. although it does seem to work better on the mat.

Q: Can you play on a 12 foot kitchen countertop

No!!! It’s for the floor. You push and bend down a bit. Like Bowling. Flat surface best…not on carpet or grass and for sure not above ground. Sorry.

Q: Does this work on basement concrete?

It works on tile on a basement floor quite nicely. if floor isn't level you can screw feet in or out to make it level.
