Q: Does the straw have a valve that needs to be bitten to open?

Q: The straw seems difficult to get water up and you seem to need to chew. Is this how it should be?

From my experience in order to suck the drink from the cup the baby needs to press its lips around the straw, then it comes out easily. The benefit of this system is that the bottle never drips liquid (unless your baby presses the straw against a table holding the cup upside down!). It’s a great cup, I have a couple, but as the kid grows bigger a sippy cup is easier for them to drink from (and spill from!)
