Q: Is there a way to increase the strength of the filter? Do you just buy a stronger air pump?

I have this - and another type. The Lee's under-gravel filter that I have going through my Fluval/Aquaclear 50 on my 10-gallon that has 2 Bristle Nose Plecos, their tremendous bioload, and obsession with fast current and bubbles. :)

Q: How many gallons could this handle on its own? I'm running it with another filter but I'm curious about using it to cycle a second tank.

No more than twenty gallons, I have a 72 gal tank but only use it as a back up filter for the lower part of my tank.

Q: will it fit a fluval 306 intake?

You can adapt it to fit any intake, but overall. Yes you can run it from a fluval 206/306/406

Q: Are there suction cups/does it come with a way to attach it to the aquarium glass?

It has a weighted bottom, so it sits where you place it.
