Augustus Caesar: A Life from Beginning to End (Roman Emperors)

Hourly History is a wonderful source for learning about significant history. In this book, we learn about the first Roman emperor. The book tells us, among much else, that he was born in 63 BCE and died at age 75 in 14 CE. We learn about his parents and early years, that his uncle was Julius Caesar who adopted him, the war with Mark Antony, the Second Triumvirate, the suicide pact, Augustus’ legacy, and much more.

I have read many books over the years and this is one that I fairly enjoyed simply because it delved into the life of a Roman ruler who had a history of comment sense as well as intelligence . I had read other things about him previously .

A nice little tidbit of one of histories greatest known men. A simple introduction of the first of the Roman Emperor's. Not complicated, but an introduction to one of histories greatest periods.

I have always loved Octavian so any book on him would yield good reviews for me. This is a very brief book but covers much of it in broad strokes. I even learned something new and I’d thought I knew everything about the Julio-Claudian dynasty emperors.

The book is an interesting look at the life and times of Octavian later known as Augustus. He was the great nephew of Julius Caesar and learnt from him and later Caesar left everything to him. During his reign Rome transitioned from a Republic to an Empire. He expanded the empire and bought peace. I found the book very enjoyable because it covered all the key points of his life and achievements.

Disfruté mucho esta lectura. La vida de Octavio estuvo llena de retos desde su niñez. La influencia de la abuela y su tío tan breve pero a su vez bien descrita, ayuda a entender el proceso de transformación que ocurrió en su vida y que eventualmente lo llevó a convertirse en el primer emperador romano. Vale la pena leerlo!

A perfect book for a quiet evening by a fire. I enjoyed the succinct approach to the lives of Caesar Augustus and his famous contemporaries.

A concise but through rending of the life and career of Augustus Caesar. I was unaware that he was a nephew of Julius Caesar. It is ironic that Cassius and Brutus thought that they were protecting the Roman Republic by murdering Julius Caesar but in fact they were hastening its demise.

Good enough read to learn about the Roman Emperor. I've only seen the movies and this book helped fill out the story. This book could use some professional editing.

Fist of these I have read but liked it although rather short but will try the others in the series
