Incorrect Bullseye Designation
On page 32 in the section "The Bull's Eye" Your example 3-75-4-M, your breakdown states 3 = 03 Deck, this is incorrect. the "3" in this example signifies this is the 3rd deck or the 2nd deck below the main deck, which on a carrier is the hanger bay. If it was 03-75-4-M then 03= 03 deck is correct. This stuck out to me cause I'm a retired navy chief who served as ships company on more than four flattops. I gave it a 5 star rating because it's a very well researched book and should be a reference for carriers.

Fascinating despite some mistakes
Haynes's naval "workshop manuals" have always been a mixed bag, ranging from to excellent (Peter Goodwin's books on the HMS Victory and HMS Alliance) to truly awful (their fact-checked-by-kindergarteners U-boat manual). This book isn't totally perfect, but it's definitely a step in the right direction for Haynes, who've been kind of losing me this last year.Where this book differs from the standard "Workshop Manual" format is that it's not so much about the technical details of modern American aircraft carriers as it is about how they operate, particularly launching and recovering aircraft. For example, we're told how all of the important flight deck gear (catapults, jet blast deflectors, arresting gear, etc.) and the various recovery systems operate, the roles of the Air Department and the major personnel in Pri-Fly, the CDC, and the Carrier Air Traffic Control Center, flight operation planning, how Case I, II, and III recoveries are performed, and so on. The book also touches on subjects as varied as aircraft handling vehicles, defensive weapons, underway replenishment, ordnance handling, and even the preparation of meals.I'm impressed by how much tighter this "manual" is compared with many Haynes titles. Rather than fluffy asides, we get excerpts from official Navy documents and manuals, snippets of interviews with CVN officers and crew, and fairly (but not overwhelmingly) detailed technical descriptions. The majority of the photographs are either from USN Mass Communication Specialists (all are properly credited) or Patrick Bunce's tour of the Dwight D Eisenhower. There are a few diagrams but I wouldn't have minded more.Unfortunately, I can't give it five stars. The first chapter contains some annoying mistakes that shouldn't have made it past the editors. We're told that the Enterprise (CVN-65) was armed with Sea Sparrow missiles upon entering service and was decommissioned in 2017, that the AJ savage was a jet aircraft, and the "Forrestal" fire was started by a Zuni rocket fired by an F-4B Phantom. These mistakes don't ruin the book, but they make me question its accuracy. Some of the pictures are overly dark like someone forgot to adjust the brightness and contrast at the publisher. That aside, this "manual" gave me a new appreciation of just complex carrier operations truly are, and the incredible amount of planning, logistics, and sheer manpower needed to keep these ships going. It can't hold a candle to Norman Friedman's "US Aircraft Carriers" in terms of detail, but most naval buffs should enjoy it.

Great book
Great book on carrier operations. Woah there was more on crew quarters and conditions in which they live. Looking forward to books on Cruisers and destroyers.
