Learn to Solder: Tools and Techniques for Assembling Electronics

Im glad I purchased this book because I didn't realise how important it is to have a De-Soldering Wick as a tool. Before purchasing this book I only had a De-Soldering Pump for solder removal. A De-Soldering is great for removing a lot of solder from a connection. However, when removing a Surface Mount Device (SMD) a De-Soldering Wick rules. This book also speaks about Setting Up Your Soldering Station, Maintaining/Cleaning your Soldering Iron on your Soldering Station. The two types of Solder. How to solder connections with Black and White Pictures. This book is not a lenghtly book. However, it has great basics for the DIYer's, Hobbyiest, Tinkerer's - Like Me.

This book is very basic for beginners. I would like the autors to include how to solder connectors like stereo jacks, cannon , etc. They should explain more detail about how to keep the tip clean during the soldering process in order to have a cinstant temperature in the tip. Also, should talk more about the temperature and power of the iron to be used, whats the relationship. Which is the best iron.

This item was purchased as a gift for a teenage family member. They found it had good directions and helped them build ther skills at soldering on a circuit board. It allows you plenty of pracice soldering and desoldering components onto the circuit boards and then leads you into constructing simple working blinking LED circuits. A good starter for the budding electronic hack.

As a beginner, this is useless. As other people have mentioned, go to youtube and watch videos.The book is too short to be of any value. There were 2 pictures of a good joint and 2 pictures of a bad joint. 2 pages on how to fix your mistakes.It told us to bend the wires to help objects, like the led light, stay in place. It then told us to cut wires using the wire cutter.One helpful thing it said was to make sure you put the wires in the right hole.A number of pages described other projects you can build. I felt like I bought and was reading an advertisement.

Been several years. Always enjoyed this activity whether making repairs or just tinkering. Great short read for those needing a refresher or someone just starting.

I gave this three stars because it does give a little information. What the description doesn't tell you is this book is a companion book for a starter kit that isn't sold on Amazon. For two or three dollars you really can't go wrong, but don't expect to learn much of anything very helpful. I would get the kit if it was offered here. If the two turned out to be a good match I could see giving this 5 stars. But as it is, 3 stars is okay and reasonable.

I was hoping for more detailed information about soldering electronics. What I got was just general soldering information, most of which I already knew. I found that after reading this book I was no better at soldering PCB's than when I started. And I had to spend several hours watching YouTube videos and asking friends before I was able to solder wires to circuit boards, which is what I was expecting the book to teach me. This book is for total beginners and treats the reader as such.

This is an awesome little book and I would recommend it to anyone looking to get started in soldering Guitars and other simple electronics as a hobby or future profession. Easily read and understood, this book takes the guesswork out of a difficult subject and puts the know-how right into the hands of the readership. Great job!

Simple and little book for basics

Great book but unable to find the soldering practice model illustrated on the cover. A Shame.

Disappointing. The book was sold as a standalone item, but in fact was meant to be part of a MAKE kit (which was not supplied). Describes how to assemble the kit by soldering. All rather pointless really. Rather a waste of money.
