Q: Does the lid seal tight? Looking at this for my 18.5 Weber Smokey mountain

I like the kid holder a lot, it does leak some smoke out. Idk if it’s cause my weber is few years old but it does. Not enough for me to loose temp though

I think it should. I have a 23 inch Weber kettle I am using it for.

I don't know the diameter of the wire but it is strong enough to hold the lid. I used it several times last summer until I found my Weber lid had a hook built inside that actually worked better than this wire and was safer too. When the lid was hot from use I had to be really careful when it sat on the wire holder because the angle of the lid on the holder made it possible I could burn my arms accidentally. The hook in the lid attached to the lip if the grill and hung much lower, therefore more out of the area of a possible accidental touch.

Q: Does this holder scratch the lid?

I have two kettles with them. They hook up to the inside bottom kettle,, the lid fits over the top section. My kettles were seasoned prior to using the lid holder, but I haven't noticed any damage. I use them for grilling fast cooks (burgers, chicken, seafood); however if I'm smoking low and slow (pork butt, brisket, ribs) I'll remove them for a better seal. I do like these, they're very useful, they hold the lid straight up and away from the grill unlike the prefab that sits leaning in towards the grill. I recommend them I bought one then another for second grill.
