How is the diameter of the bung measured?  I ordered a 2" bung but it is too big.  The one I am replacing measures about 1 3/4 inside.

The fine thread bung fitting is a 2" NPT (National Pipe Thread).  Pipe sizes are based on the nominal inside diameter of the pipe.  Because pipes of various materials must engaged interchangeably, the actual inside diameter of pipes of different materials will tend to vary due the the varying wall thicknesses appropriate to each material type and the pressure that they are designed to handle.  The result of this is that a 2" pipe will measures something closer to 2-3/8" on the outside.  The female threaded fitting will of course have threads that reduce that dimension by twice the profile of the thread but will still be more than 2" and closer to 2-1/4".  Pipe threads can also be tapered to create an interference fit...  and allow for tightening.  The taper can further make measurements difficult.   The 2" fine bung fitting typically has a straight (non-tapered) thread relying on a gasket to seal.  The 2" coarse bung fitting will have a coarse thread called a buttress thread.  The profile of the buttress thread is triangular with a flat bearing surface perpendicular to the axis of the fitting and an angled support.  The 2" coarse thread fitting has dimensions similar to the fine thread.  A 1-1/2" pipe would have a thread diameter similar to 1-3/4".  There may be metric European sizes also.  Here in the US the standard sizes are typically covered by the coarse and fine.  Poly Farm LLC

Yes these are standard 2" bungs which fit most 15, 30 and 55 gallon drums.  Please be aware of the different threads as there are two standard types.  There is a courser thread called buttress and a finer thread called NPT.  Please make sure you are ordering the right thread for your drum.
